Ode to the Cellar Rat…

I said in an earlier post I would elaborate on my love for Cellar + Plate.  Well here it is…

I walked into the Cellar last Fall for a Thanksgiving wine pairing dinner.  WOW.  How do people eat without pairing it with wine?! I’ve been a regular ever since.

I was fortunate to become friends with the owners, Mary and Doug.  Wine lovers extraordinaire and genuinely great people.  Her passion for her work and the backstory that she came from spoke to me, and truly inspired a change within myself.  Mary, you truly are my hero.   More on that later…

Back to what makes Cellar so great-

The staff are all amazing.  Thank you Amanda for knowing what I would like before I even think I would like it.  Scott, AKA Tony Stark, you make for good company while listening to my drunk babble. Shout out to the entire BOH staff, you guys make some amazing food. Everyone loves being there. In all seriousness, these people will take care of you and truly know their trade.  Treat them well.

The events.  This is what got me hooked in the first place.  From creative food pairings,  pasta making, rosé and champagne tastings, drag show brunches and the greatest wine ice cream I have ever had.

Wine Club!  How did I not know I needed this in my life and how did I go so long without it?!  Each month I receive something spectacular that I would not have ever picked out for myself.  Dave- you’re a wine genius.

Thank you M & D for welcoming me as a Cellar Rat

Flights booked!

Holy shiitake, Batman.

Flights to Italy are crazy expensive!.  Insert shout out to Scott’s Cheap Flights here…. This handy dandy website let’s you sign up for free or pay a small nominal cost to get alerts delivered to your inbox.  I paid for the detailed.  I picked the airports I could leave from.  I made them a VIP on my fancy Apple Watch.  I waited.  And Waited.  And BOOM- little wrist watch vibration alerting me to Euro cheap flights?!  My body literally went into a flight or fight mode.  Closing my office door,  threatening anyone that tried to come in, even passing on my favorite interactions with the SilverFox.  Luckily I have an amazing  extra set of eyes from the almighty Josh, Office Assistant extraordinaire.  We scoured the Google flights, trying all possible cities in the Scott’s Cheap Flights email.  And Bingo- $450 round trip to Rome From Washington, DC.  This is normally a $1300 flight.

Score Bitchachos.

Italia, piccola!

Amalfi with the Sister from another Mister IMG_2457

Sometimes you get lucky and people fall into your lap.  I got lucky with my Sister from another Mister, Heidi.  I remember when we hired her at the real estate development company I was working for.  She was loud, had a hankering for cocktails, and had no filter.  Geezus, it was my soul sister.

Fast forward a few years later, two new jobs, and countless cheers in between.

2017 –  we discovered a beautiful little gem of a wine bar, and it’s amazing owners Mary and Doug.   Cellar + Plate.  (More about that place in a separate post) And then we discovered Si Italia! A chance to go to Italy with our favorite wine owners?!  It was a no-brainer. Lots of scouring travel sights, drinking Italian wine to get in the mood, and trying to learn Italian in the next 22 weeks,  Amalfi Coast in August baby.
